Joe Biden is an American politician who served as the 47th vice president of the United States from 2009 to 2017 under President Barack Obama. After law school, Biden began his political career by serving as a staff assistant for Senator William Roth. He was then elected to the U.S. Senate from Delaware in 1972, becoming one of the youngest people ever elected to the Senate at the age of 29. He served in the Senate for 36 years, and during that time he chaired several committees, including the Foreign Relations Committee and the Judiciary Committee.

During his time in the Senate, Biden established himself as a leading voice on foreign policy and national security issues. He played a key role in shaping U.S. policy toward the former Soviet Union, the Balkans, and Iraq, and was an early advocate for the use of force to stop the genocide in Bosnia.

In 2008, Biden was elected as vice president of the United States on the Democratic ticket with Barack Obama. As vice president, Biden played a key role in the Obama administration's foreign policy and domestic policy initiatives, including the successful efforts to pass the Affordable Care Act and the repeal of "Don't ask, don't tell," a policy that banned openly gay individuals from serving in the military.

Biden has been married to Dr. Jill Biden since 1977. The couple have one daughter together, Ashley, and two sons, Beau and Hunter. Beau Biden passed away in 2015 from brain cancer.
